Hawthorn Class visited Beamish linked to our Victorians topic. The children took part in a Victorian lesson where they had to write with an ink pot and pen, recite their 5 x table, read a poem and take part in some Victorian P.E in class. Mrs Winlow and Mrs Jensen also worked very hard. One boy, Joe Ronayne, was made to stand up because he wrote with his left hand and this was unacceptable in Victorian schools. The class also travelled on a tram to the town where we went to the sweet shop. The children saw Sarsaparilla Tablets being made and they smelt delicious. We also visited the Dentist and the class were horrified by the dental procedures in Victorian times. Hawthorn Class’ behaviour was a credit to the school. We had a great day!
